Daley says to Paula Patton, We can be Alone Together at the Long Beach Jazz Festival

The Long Beach Jazz Festival is near.  I saw the line up and it is filled with some power houses such as Tyrese, Al Jarreau, Rachelle Ferrell, Hiroshima and thankfully no Robin Thick especially since Jazz Fest West was cancelled.

It seems that there has been some backlash regarding Robin Thick’s latest release probably because it is chock full of him begging for his wife, Paula Patton, to reconcile.  How many songs will he sing before he finally gets the message; she ain’t buying it and nor is anybody else…  From a listener’s perspective this is not the time for a musician to release a begging song when the hottest song out talks about them ain’t loyal… And that is beside seeing the video which by the way is the first of his music videos in which his wife does not appear, “Whoa!”

As I was in the mist of thinking about it I briefly wondered who would be her next.  While I was doing this thinking I glanced again at the line up for the Long Beach Jazz Festival and I saw a white guy named Daley who I had never heard of so I figured if he was scheduled to appear at the festival he must be good.

I pulled out my phone, click the Youtube button, typed in his name and the first song that popped up was “Alone Together” featuring Marsha Ambrosius.  As I pushed the button and begin listening to the song I was amazed.  Here is this skinny white guy who I later learned was from England wearing big glasses, with a curly pompadour that was shaved on the side singing a song that you would think should not be coming from his mouth.

As the video played I realized that he’s in the video with this light skinned black women.  And then I thought about when Robin Thick was new, sang some amazing songs, and was in the video with this light skinned black women who happened to be Paula…   And then when I realized what Daley was singing about it offered a possibility for who would be Paula’s next…Why not?  He’d fit right in to what she likes without missing a beat.

As for the black woman in Daley’s song, she might be able to spend some time with Robin… I don’t know what you think?  Leave a comment.

The Long Beach Jazz Festival takes place August 9th and 10th with Tyrese, Ramsey Lewis, Rachelle Ferrell, Najee, Michael Lington, Jesse Boykins III, Will Downing, Al Jarreau, Daley, Lalah Hathaway, Hiroshima and Al Williams Jazz Society.  For more information click here.
