hummmm… Just Some Questions About @NICKIMINAJ & @LADYGAGA

As Nicki Minaj  levitates during her performance at the 2012 Grammy Awards held at Staples Center on Sunday (February 12) in Los Angeles, only after walking with the The Pope on the red carpet earlier in the evening in a Red Versace Cape..I knew she had something underneath.

However.. I just did not get what she was doing.. nor were any of the fashion commentators at that time. In fact, I could not watch the entire performance due to all the satanic rituals and excorcismness! HOWEVER, after reading a blog by Betrice Coleman-Sweet…and featuring it in ULM Celebrity Lyfe Blog “Nicki Minaj: Method to the Madness by Betrice Coleman-Sweet http://celebritylyfe.blogspot.com/2012/02/nicki-minaj-method-to-madness-by.html  I had a better understanding. But still I was puzzled! Nicki Minaj’s performance is being blasted all over the internet as THE WORSE performance of all times. What is not clear to me though, is “Was it the worse because she could not perform or did not have the acting/dancing personifications to pull the performance off?  OR …was it the worse because it was such a great re-enactment that it offended so many people both secular and religious?” I would have to say she performed the heck out of the the entire theatrical concept from the time she walked out of the car onto the red carpet until she drove away from the Staples Center. SO CONVINCING that I had to pray demons away and had to really pray about what was going on or even to write

something about it. SO WHY ALL THE NEGATIVE COMMENTARIES? The 29-year-old rapper kicked off her performance by confessing the lyrics to her new single, “Roman Holiday,” called “The exorcism of [Nicki‘s alter ego] Roman,” which was choreograhed by Laurieann Gibson and featured religious imagery, pyrotechnics, and backup dancers dressed as monks.

YET,.it was deemed a disaster!
And, her appearance was compared to Lady Gaga’s ”Paparazzi” 2009 MTV Video Music Award performance where Lady Gaga collapsed on stage with blood dripping from her rib cage and smeared on her face before rising above her dancers on stage. (Also there have been comparison’s of Lady Gaga’s performance last year where she arrived on the red carpet in an egg, and escaped the egg during the opening of her performance).

What was confusing to me is that Lady Gaga’s performance was categorized by many as a dramatic performance and as one of  the night’s highlights due in part to the wild fashion and the rather graphic (and bloody) ending.  In fact, Lady Gaga’s choreography was the mastermind of the same Laurieann Gibson that choreographed Minaj’ in your face performance last Sunday.

WHAT WAS THE DIFFERENCE? They both were extreme in dramatics. They both dealt with death, blood or offensive tones such as hanging and of course an exorcism…..  It was not until someone said to me, “Nicki is black and Lady Gaga is white!” And now I have to look at both performances and ask, “If it were Lady Gaga performing the same routine instead of Nicki Minaj….what would the response have been?” .
