Kenzo and H&M Launched with Charles Wright “Express Yourself”
Carol Lim and Humberto Leon of Kenzo joined forces with the H&M brand to produce a fun, colorful, and print-heavy line that was launched in New York.
The show was vibrant, energetic and brought out icons such as Goddess Iman, Hip Hop legend Ice Cube, Indie silver screen super star Chloe Sevigny, up-and-coming actress Constance Wu, the glamorous Lupita Nyong’o, Chance the Rapper and more.
Sam Spiegel remixed “Express Yourself” and it perfectly represented the energy of the collection. Ice Cube came out to perform BUT WHERE WAS MUSIC ICON CHARLES WRIGHT?
“Express Yourself” is a song written by Charles Wright and performed by Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band in 1970 reaching #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was also their biggest hit on the U.S. R&B chart, reaching #3. The song was perfect for the social climate at that time and has continued to be relevant throughout the years and more so now.
Charles Wright continues to create music and social conscious messages with the release of “SOMETHING TO MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD” and his 1st of several memoirs “UP FROM WHERE WE’VE COME”. For more information about Charles Wright, please click here.
It is mind boggling to me that this legend is consistently shaded while Ice Cube is given the red carpet from a song he took without permission. One would think that the merger of the two… Ice Cube and Charles Wright would be an Icon with THE LIVING ICON .. a synergy of past and present fused through music and clothing could be a cultural phenomenon and brand would seek to associate with.
