LONG BEACH JAZZ FESTIVAL : For 3 days, true jazz enthusiasts enjoyed the best of the best jazz legends. While other jazz festivals have added R&B artists to bridge the gap of lack of sales they believe is due to “jazz”, the Long Beach Jazz Festival went back to its roots.
Now in its 29th year, under the direction of Kimberly Benoit, over 26 Jazz Legends graced the stage at Rainbow Lagoon Park.
Friday night included Major, Althea René, Elan Trotman, Jonathan Butler, Gerald Albright, Paul Taylor and Peter White.
Saturday continued with Mindless Groove, Paul Jackson Jr., Everette Harp, The Rippingtion, Rick Braun, Kirk Whalum, Norman Brown and Jefferey Osborne.
Sunday closed out with Richard “88 Fingers” Turner Jr., Al Williams, Stanley Jordan, Kim Waters, Steve Cole, Jeff Kashiwa, Sax Pack, Kenny Lattimore, Michael Lington, David Sanborn and Dave Koz.
The Long Beach Jazz Festival is always declared the Crème de la Crème of Southern California’s festivals,
Over 12,000 guests experienced “A Healthy Taste of Jazz” at the Health & Wellness Pavilion where the focus was on nourishing mind, body, and soul. The event featured renowned musical artists, wellness speakers and leaders, treatment centers, vendors and healthy food options. Festival attendees were offered tools for creating a healthier lifestyle. Information and experiences are available to help festival goers feel more energized, focused and de-stressed.
New this year, the festival invited celebrity guests to attend and to merge with the media at the Media Center through KRPR Media (www.krprmedia.com). The Center was gorgeous and sponsors, the artists and celebs stepped on the red carpet for interviews to include Tonya Banks (Little Women LA), Katt Williams (Comedian), KiKi Sheperd, Pat Harvey (CBS LA), Robin Shelby (Ghostbusters), Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, to name a few.
